About an Aztec

Niltze!

My name is Namacuix. I am one of many that live in Tenochtitlan. I live in the highlands area, where most of the houses are made of mud. My family consists of a mother, a father, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and almost all of my dad’s close relatives. It got pretty crowded in there at times.

For my education, my father was the one who taught me until I was 10 years old. He mainly taught me how to hunt and do craftwork, which I enjoy doing very much. After my father stopped educating me, I went to a school run by my calpolli. This school taught me general education and military training. I really enjoyed the military training part. When it comes time for me to fight, I’ll fight!

Tenochtitlan is a really big place. It covers 8 to 13.4 square km. Our city is divided into four sections and each section is divided into districts. Each district is divided into streets. In the center of the city, many people go to the public places that can be found there. There are many temples that you can see and enjoy.

I always wanted to be emperor of Tenochtitlan. It would be so great to have all that power. Also, the responsibility would be huge, and that would be a challenge, but I love challenges. I can face almost any challenge head on. The sad thing is, is that my parents told me that being an emperor was not my fate. Now I know that my dream is not realistic, but I can still dream. Can’t I?

Another thing that is important to me is religion. Religion is probably one of the most important parts of my life. In my religion, we believe in many gods and godesses. Since our economy is based on agriculture, many of our gods represent that. For example, Centeotl is a corn god.

I guess that is all about me; an aztec.
